Just days ahead of Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Zambia, one of their brightest young wingers has secured a move to Russia.
Espanyol and Ghana winger Mubarak Wakaso has joined Rubin Kazan from Espanyol.
The Spanish side confirmed his departure on Wednesday via their official website.
“I want to apologise to the club, the players and the fans because whilst I asked them to leave, I did not want to. But it was an opportunity for my future,” said Mubarak, “When I received the offer, I called many times to the President for acceptance, it was important to me, ” he said.
Wakaso also thanked “the club, the fans, the players and staff” for his season at Espanyol. “Here I have learned and improved” he said.
Wakaso had a promising 2012-13 season for an underwhelming Espanyol side, scoring three goals and notching eight assists in 23 games for the side.
He now joins a diverse Rubin Kazan side as the only African in the squad. The club are currently ninth in the Russian Premiear League with just one win in their opening six games, so the winger’s pace and trickery will undoubtedly be a welcome addition.
The fee paid to Espanyol was undisclosed at this time.
