Barcelona captain left on the the turf after Argentine winger’s sublime skill.
It’s not often anyone makes a fool of Barcelona captain Carles Puyol.
The 34-year-old is a no-nonsense character and a formidable defender but there were signs that age was catching up with Puyol during Tuesday night’s El Clasico.
The centre-half was left sprawling on the turf after a rapid turn of pace by Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria during the visitors 3-1 Copa del Rey semi-final victory at the Nou Camp.
Puyol was indebted to his spritely teammate Dani Alves, who sprinted back to block Di Maria’s cross.
After a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu a fortnight ago, Los Blancos put in a near perfect away performance – which will leave Manchester United fans sweating ahead of Real’s Champions League visit to Old Trafford – to progress to the final 4-1 on aggregate.
