Napoli’s Edinson Cavani gave suitors Real Madrid and Chelsea a timely reminder of why the Serie A club value him at close to £55m with a classy double as Uruguay lost the Confederations Cup third place play off to Italy on penalties, after a 2-2 draw after extra time.
The 26-year-old scored a fine free-kick to the game level at 2-2 and had earlier cancelled out Italy’s close range opener with this brilliant sliding finish.
Unsurprisingly, Cavani also scored his penalty but Gianluigi Buffon saved three Uruguay spot kicks as the Azzurri claimed third place.
