Striker
Nothing excites football fans more than the prospect of their club signing a new top-class striker.
And United need one more than most of their title rivals, having opted against buying Radamel Falcao permanently after the faltering Colombian managed only four goals during his 2015-16 loan spell.
Robin van Persie is also being touted with a summer exit. The Dutchman, 31, spent periods of last term on the bench and has admitted that he needs to be playing regularly at this stage of his career.
At the opposite end of his career is Tottenham’s Harry Kane, who scored 31 goals for Spurs last season and is the favoured attacking target of United fans, according to a 40,000-strong poll.
But the Lilywhites would be even more reluctant to sell Kane than they would Lloris. Even the £40m that the Red Devils are supposedly willing to spend on the England man would not be enough to tempt Spurs.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani and Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain are proven goalscorers who are also at the top end of the market, but United may have to be content with Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke, who is available for £32.5m and could be at the centre of a deadline-day bidding war between the Manchester giants and Liverpool.
