The Gold Coast Suns have offered star midfielder Gary Ablett a two-year contract extension worth over $2 million, according to Fairfax Media.
Ablett is contracted for 2015 so if he does agree to the new terms, he will lead the Suns until at least the end of the 2017 season.
The 30-year-old’s wage will drop next season due to his front-heavy contract, but the new deal will see him join Lance Franklin at the top of the AFL’s highest-earners list.
Ablett was enjoying yet another superb season with the Suns in 2014 before he dislocated his shoulder in round 16 against Collingwood.
The Suns looked to be heading towards a first finals appearance, before the Ablett-less side lost six of its final seven games to finish 12th.
Despite missing seven games, Ablett was still named in the All Australian side and polled 22 Brownlow votes to finish third behind Matt Priddis and Nat Fyfe.
