The Warriors overcame their disappointment of losing at home for only the third time all season in Game 2 by defeating the Grizzlies in Memphis in the next encounter. Further, they took the series lead back too after a much improved performance last time out with Tony Allen missing for the visitors.
Allen’s absence for Memphis is huge on the defensive end, so much so that he is expected to play through his hamstring strain on Friday night to feature in what could be the last game of the season for the Grizzlies.
Without him on the court, Klay Thompson had a series-high 21 points while Stephen Curry had 18 points along with a career playoff-high of six steals as well as seven rebounds and five assists.
Golden State have seemingly found their offensive rhythm again as they dominated at times on Wednesday en route to a comfortable 98-78 win.
After averaging 89.5 points and hitting 12 for 52 (23.1 percent) for 3-point range in Games 2 and 3, they have made 28 of 63 (44.4 percent) from beyond the arc in winning the last two.
Critics will say that relying so heavily on shooting well will eventually be their undoing, but if it continues to work then it makes them the most dangerous team left in the post-season. With some of the best shooters that the game has ever seen on their roster, it serves coach Steve Kerr well to adopt the system and it hasn’t done them much harm so far this year.
The intention is clear, the Warriors are going to Memphis to wrap this series up. Prediction: Back them to do so and win at the ‘Grindhouse’ again with MVP Curry continuing to re-discover his rhythm to lead Golden State to the Western Conference Finals.
