The Catalan native wants to bring flair to the Hindmarsh Stadium during 2013/14.
Adelaide United head coach Josep Gombau believes he can get his side singing to the same tune as Barcelona next season.
Gombau was schooled through Barca’s fabled junior system during the formative days of his coaching career and Catalan native is convinced he can apply his education at the Hindmarsh Stadium in order for the Reds to emulate the tiki-taka style made famous by the La Liga champions.
And the 37-year-old is steadfast in his belief that cultivating a new and long-lasting football philosophy during his first season at Adelaide is of critical importance – even more so than winning matches.
“Of course those top class players help a lot. In a game you may not have a solution to the problem and a player like Lionel Messi can arrive and make something out of nothing and you finish winning 3-0,” Gombau told The World Game.
“But you can play the same style. The style that is to start from the back, to have the ball, to play with the team in unison and to press when you lose the ball, of course we can do that.
“We will try to keep the ball, to have the most time possible with possession, to play beautiful football, attacking football but this requires time. I am satisfied that the players are concentrating and enjoying it.
“In my first season it’s more important to do this than to win games.”
