The Metro has suggested this evening that the Reds have moved into pole position for Reus. The Anfield club were alerted to his availability several weeks ago, with the news that he’d rejected a new contract at Dortmund, and are now the favourites to get their man.
They were expecting to move for him the summer, but could attempt to pull off a deal in the New Year, now that Dortmund have admitted defeat in their attempts to keep the 25-year-old and are resigned to losing him.
The German giants are already targeting a replacement: Paris Saint Germain’s Javier Pastore, and the source claims that negotiations are underway for him to arrive in January; freeing up Reus to sign for Liverpool.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is a long-term admirer of Reus, and it’s thought he would be prepared to make him the club’s highest paid player if the move goes through, eclipsing the £150,000 deal recently signed by Daniel Sturridge.
