Coach wants entire country’s support
Ahead of Saturday’s crunch World Cup Qualifier in Durban, National coach Gordon Igesund has issued a call to arms for all Bafana Bafana fans.
The former Moroka Swallows and Ajax Cape Town Coach has urged fans to get behind the national side for the weekends’ game against Botswana.
Speaking to the South African Football Association, he said: ” We need all the support we can get on Saturday and we want to have that vibe that will give the players a boost to do well.
He also reiterated that fans needed to put club squabbles aside when following the national side.
“I also need to point out that our supporters must be with us through thick and thin and unite when the national team plays.
“We have had situations before where fans support by virtue of which players have been selected – if more Pirates players are selected then we have more Pirates supporters to support us.
Or the same goes for Swallows or Ajax, we should refrain from that and put club allegiance aside. At the end of the day all these players are representing us as a nation.”
To qualify Bafana Bafana need victory against Stanley Tshosane’s men and hope that Ethiopia slip up against Central African Republic.
