Tennessee Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt was victorious in his debut with the team.
The Tennessee Titans defeated the Green Bay Packers 20-16 in their Week 1 preseason game.
Former NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers did not play against the Titans in the preseason game, nor did former Offensive Rookie of the Year Eddie Lacy or WR Jordy Nelson. Instead, backup QB Matt Flynn got the start. Flynn went 5-for-10 with 49 yards passing and 9 rushing yards.
Green Bay Backup QBs Scott Tolzien and Chase Rettig were sacked a combined four times. The Packers’ lone TD came on a 20-yard run by James Starks on the first drive of the game. Starks finished the game with a game-leading 49 yards rushing.
1st-round draft pick Ha Ha Clinton-Dix was solid, recording three tackles and a pass defended.
The Titans had three TDs (with one missed extra point in the first quarter by kicker Maikon Bonani) from all three of the RBs vying for the starting job. Shonn Greene had a 13-yard TD in the first quarter; Titans backup Charlie Whitehurst threw a TD to Bishop Sankey in the third quarter; and Jackie Battle had a 7-yard rushing TD in the fourth quarter.
