Liverpool have been hot and cold in the Christian Benteke chase, but they may be the last ones standing. Will Benteke be wearing Red next year?
Liverpool have received a major boost in the race for Aston Villa superstar striker Christian Benteke with two of the other suitors pulling out of the race.
According to the Metro, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have both pulled out of the race for the 24-year-old Belgian scoring machine. With a £32.5 million release clause in his contract, Liverpool have been wishy-washy on their pursuit of Benteke, insisting that Aston Villa adjust the final sale price for the club’s invaluable superstar.
Man United have reportedly turned their sights on PSG’s star striker Edison Cavani while Tottenham have moved on to less expensive striker prospects.
Benteke recorded 11 goals in his last 10 league games with Aston Villa to help the club escape relegation. He was the Premier League Player of the Month in April and was a huge part of the team’s run to the FA Cup Final. Benteke has scored double-digit league goals in each of the last four years and in five of the last six.
