The Spaniard has been in top form for the Gunners this season in a central midfield role due to injuries to both Mesut Ozil and Jack Wilshere.
He has six goals and eight assists in 29 appearances so far in this campaign, and has been an important part of the North London club’s push for the Premier League top four.
Despite this, the 30-year-old only has 18 months left on his current deal, and so could be available cheaply in the summer. If he were to leave the Emirates it is likely that Arsene Wenger would need to bring in some kind of replacement.
“He has 18 months left on his contract at Arsenal, and Atletico have contacted Cazorla’s entourage,” Balague said.
“Atletico are convinced that they can persuade the player to join them. Then they just have to pay the money. There will be one year left on his contract in the summer, and will be available for cheaper.”
