Buntine suffers nasty injuries in Carlton match.
During Greater Western Sydney Giants’ s trial game in the NAB Cup against Carlton Matt Buntine was rushed to hospital after suffering a broken rib and punctured lung.
Bountine sustained the injury after a crushing collision with Carlton forward Levi Casboult. He needed his lung drained after connecting with Casboult’s knee in the contact according to Fox Sports.
GWS coach Kevin Sheedy said the club would be taking a cautious approach to Bountine’s recovery: ‘We’re not into the game of rushing these sorts of players back. We’ll just bring in another kid.’
Despite the severity of Bountine’s injuries Casboult was found by the review board to have made no illegal contact.
‘It was the view of the panel that Casboult was making a realistic attempt to gather the ball and the contact was accidental,’ the league said in a statement.
Hawthorn star Lance Franklin has also been cleared by the review board after his high contact with Gold Coast Suns Matt Shaw.
Franklin caught Shaw around the neck and shoulder conceding a free kick but the board ruled that Franklin already has his arms out to gather the ball when contact was made.
The review board also cleared Gold Coast Suns player Andrew Boston for a similar high contact incident against Brisbane Lions player Claye Beams during their other trial match of the weekend.
