The year 2014 is coming to a close – the regular season is over and all that remains is a month of playoffs before a champion is crowned.
But who have been the best players this year? Certainly in a year of highlights, epic games, and some of the most exciting moments in NFL history there are some players that can be considered “The Best.”
With that said, a list has been made of the most exciting, most important and dominant players in the NFL this season.
Here are the Five Best NFL Players of 2014:
#5 – WR Odell Beckham Jr., NY Giants
In a season where just about everything that could go wrong went wrong for the New York Giants, they got one thing right: Drafting WR Odell Beckham Jr. After missing the first four games of the season due to injuries, Beckham made his debut for the Giants with 10 catches for over 100 yards and 3 TDs in his first three games.
But then against the Indianapolis Colts he truly emerged with one of the best stretches by any WR in NFL history – nine out of nine games with over 90 receiving yards, seven of which were for over 100 and five of which were over 140 – he averaged over 133 yards/game in that span. 9 TD catches in that nine-game span helped him end the season tied for 4th in the league in TD receptions with 12. But most impressively, his season ended with a league-leading 108.8 yards/game – 12th best in NFL history and a Giants franchise record.
But the defining moment of Beckham’s season was an epic three-finger TD catch against the Dallas Cowboys where he literally contorted his body backwards to make an incredible catch in double-coverage and fell into the endzone. The catch was easily the best play of the 2014 NFL season and is considered by some to be the best catch in NFL history.
That and so many other things made Odell Beckham Jr. one of the most amazing players to watch in 2014 and why he starts off the list of best players of 2014.
