Redknapp has been struggling with the West London side this season after their promotion from the Championship and they have lost all 11 of their away Premier League fixtures to date.
The 67-year-old is a well known ‘wheeler-dealer’ in the transfer market and his interviews from his car window have become synonymous with transfer deadline day.
Yet much to everyone’s surprise the window came and went with Redknapp managing to secure one new addition – despite his side’S perilous position near the foot of the table – in the shape of West Ham United loanee Mauro Zarate.
Even the Zarate deal was shrouded in mystery as it seems the Hoops tried to send the Argentine back to the Boleyn Ground and bring in Matt Jarvis instead on Monday.
Rs owner Tony Fernandes sent a tweet on deadline day stating his club would not be spending and many believe it is in fact this refusal to give him funds that moved Redknapp to resign – not that he is admitting to it if it is.
“I was awake all night, thinking about it,” the Englishman told the Daily Mail.
“I’m struggling so badly now. I can’t walk, I can barely stand and watch. I’m in pain all the time. I’ve been putting it off, and putting it off, but it has got to the stage where I cannot do the job.
“…It must have been 5.30am. I just told him he needed someone who could properly coach and manage the team in the next ten weeks. It’s such an important time. They need someone who can give it everything.”
