Hoops manager believes the Special One would propel Chelsea back to greatness.
Harry Redknapp believes Jose Mourinho would make Chelsea “world class” if he returns to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
The Portuguese is expected to leave his current post at Real Madrid at the end of the season and Mourinho has been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge, where he won two Premier League titles between 2004 and 2007.
“Should he leave Real Madrid there are only one or two clubs over here which could possibly accommodate him,” Redknapp wrote in his column in the Sun.
“Of course, one of those is Chelsea. If Rafa Benítez leaves in the summer, then Mourinho is red-hot favourite to go back to the club where the fans still sing his name, back to an owner with lots of money and back to a squad which only needs a bit of tinkering with to become world class again.
“Look where he has been and what the clubs are like once he leaves. Inter are now a shadow of what it was when he was there. Chelsea have never been the consistent force they were in his day.”
Interim boss Rafa Benitez will leave Chelsea at the end of the current campaign and QPR manager Redknapp believes that Mourinho’s return would once again see the Blues ranked alongside the best teams in world football.
Chelsea currently sit fourth in the league, two points behind third-placed Tottenham with a game in hand.
The Blues lost 1-0 in their Europa league last-16 first leg at Steau Bucharest but produced a stirring comeback from 2-0 down to draw with Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday.
