Could the Gunners sign the £37m prodigy in the summer?
Arsenal were heavily linked with Schalke wonderkid Julian Draxler for the entirety of the January transfer window, and recent quotes from Gunners boss Arsene Wenger suggest his team might go back in for the 20-year-old this summer.
When asked about potential transfer targets, Wenger was coy, but did admit that the situation will be re-evaluated in the summer.
“We are not against spending, but at the moment we are focused on the second part of the season, and at the end of the season we will see what we will do,” said the French boss, reported in the Metro.
Last summer, Arsenal smashed their transfer record with the £42m acquisition of Mesut Ozil, silencing doubters who had previously suggested Wenger refused to spend lavishly out of personal pride.
While the Gunners have a plethora of attacking midfield talent (Cazorla, Ozil, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Podolski, Gnabry, Walcott, Rosicky etc…) it has been suggested that Draxler could be converted into a centre-forward much like Wenger did with Henry and Van Persie.
Regardless of his best position, fans can expect the Draxler rumour mill to start up once again when this season draws to a close.
