According to respected journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the United star has agreed to a move and a €6.5m transfer fee has been agreed between the two clubs.
The Dutchman’s contract is set to expire next summer, but after a disappointing season last year under Louis Van Gaal, it appears as though they have made the mutual decision to move on.
Van Persie will be keen to get as much playing time as possible this season in order to rediscover his form ahead of Euro 2016 next year.
Whether or not he is able to do that in Istanbul remains to be seen, but he will be greeted by a familiar face after former United winger Nani joined the Turkish giants earlier this week.
It is reported that only a few details remain before the deal is finalised, and it is expected that Van Persie will be a Fenerbahce player before the end of the week.
