Despite saga being “closed” more information comes to light.
Hawthorn forward Lance Franklin has taken to Twitter to defend himself in the wake of verbal assault claims, saying the woman at the centre of the saga started the argument.
Former swimsuit fashion designer and surf brand director Nicky Rowsell said she felt threatened by Franklin when the paid clashed in a Melbourne bar.
“Maybe the @theheraldsun should ask Nicky and publish why she approached me and what she said,” Franklin wrote.
“I am not for one minute saying how I reacted was right but when someone comes up and verbally attacks me and the people I care about for no apparent reason I think it’s only natural to defend yourself.”
Hawthorn conducted an investigation into the matter and released their findings on the investigation.
“The Club spoke to the woman and Franklin, and ascertained the initial conversation began because the pair share a mutual friend,” the statement said.
“The conversation escalated following a comment made by the woman that Franklin took particular offence to.
“On Monday, of his own accord Franklin discussed the matter directly with the woman, and both parties considered the matter closed.”
CEO Stuart Fox said: “While disappointed the incident occurred, we’re supportive of the way Lance has since handled the matter given the circumstances.”
“As both parties have approached the matter in a professional and mature way following open discussions on Monday, the issue was mutually resolved in private.”
