2. Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
Cooper finished strongly as he caught 25 passes in his last two games, and he helped lead the Crimson Tide to an SEC championship as they remained in the No. 1 spot in the College Football Playoff ranking. The Biletnikoff Award winner broke the SEC record for catches in a single season with 115, previously held by former Vanderbilt wide receiver Jordan Matthews.
Although Cooper has made a strong enough case for consideration to be the first wide receiver to win the Heisman since Desmond Howard in 1991, he has fallen victim to being bested by a historic season.
Stats: 115 receptions, 1,656 receiving yards, 14 touchdowns; 5 carries, 23 rushing yards, 0 touchdowns
