1. Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
It’s official. The 2014 Heisman Trophy is Mariota’s to lose. He had a golden opportunity to build his Heisman resume against Michigan State. The junior took full advantage by throwing for 318 yards and three touchdowns on 17-of-28 passing with 42 rushing yards. The Spartans had taken a 27-18 lead over the Ducks, but Mariota showed poise as he led the Ducks to 28 unanswered points to give them a 46-27 victory. This arguably makes Oregon the top team in college football. Barring an upset loss or two, Mariota should easily make it to the Heisman ceremony, and it will be no surprise if he takes home the award.
Stats: 585 passing yards, 6 touchdowns, 0 interceptions; 15 carries, 85 rushing yards, 1 touchdown
