3. Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
Even though Georgia lost to South Carolina, the loss was not Gurley’s fault. The Bulldogs allowed the Gamecocks to score 38 points, and quarterback Dylan Thompson torched them for 271 yards and three touchdowns. However, Gurley had another Heisman-caliber performance as he rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
The junior running back has rushed for over 100 yards in both of his games, and they have both been against ranked teams. Plenty of Heisman winners have won the award despite their teams having multiple losses, so it isn’t fair to discount Gurley as a frontrunner even if the Bulldogs have three or four losses at the end of the season.
Stats: 35 carries, 329 rushing yards, 4 touchdowns; 5 receptions, -1 receiving yards, 0 touchdowns
