Arsene Wenger has only very sparingly used his star striker since the 2015 Copa America.
Arsenal scoring leader Alexis Sanchez barely played in the Week 1 opener against West Ham United, but now he’s back in front as the Gunners try to rebound from a devastating loss.
In a press conference transcribed by The Telegraph, Arsene Wenger confirmed that Sanchez will be making his return to the starting ranks for Arsenal’s Week 2 matchup with Crystal Palace. The move will undoubtedly give the Gunners their scoring edge back after being shut out in their 0-2 loss to West Ham.
Wenger decided to give Sanchez an extended break from pre-season after the Chilean star led his country to a win over Argentina in the 2015 Copa America Final. Sanchez ended up resting for the majority of the pre-season and the FA Community Shield.
Alexis Sanchez led Arsenal with 16 league goals and 25 total goals in his first year with the club, leading them to a 3rd-place finish on the Premier League table and an FA Cup Final victory over Aston Villa. He was voted to the Premier League Team of the Season and the PFA Team of the Year.
