Stone had been ranked seventh nationally in the Class of 2015 recruiting rankings, and he was rated the second-best center in the country.
The McDonald’s All-American center had also been heavily recruited by Wisconsin, Connecticut and Oklahoma State.
The Terps showed that they have a bright future as they reached the Round of 32 in the 2015 NCAA Tournament before being knocked out by West Virginia.
They are expected to see freshman point guard Melo Trimble return although he has not officially announced his NBA Draft decision yet.
Trimble averaged 16.2 points per game, and having a premier big man to play with will only help his development and the team’s quest to become a national title contender.
Stone made his big decision official on Twitter.
