Juve president admits he thinks the Argentinian is already elsewhere.
There is good news for Arsenal fans as a deal to sign Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain takes a step forward with their closest rivals for the 25-year-old’s signature, Juventus, pulling out of the chase.
Juve president Beppe Marotta has revealed that the Serie A champions have never been in the running to sign the Argentinian and that Higuain has already moved.
“To my knowledge, Higuain is already elsewhere,” Marotta was quoted in La Stampa.
“Even though we are at the beginning of the transfer window we never made suggestions we would sign players, only praised them.”
In recent times La Bianconeri appear to have shifted their interest for a new front-man towards Manchester City and controversial forward Carlos Tevez.
Tevez is entering the last year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium and with a troubled past couple of seasons in the north west of England, City are willing to part ways with the 29-year-old.
These negotiations make Arsenal’s deal for Higuain all the more likely to go through and although Marotta didn’t mention the club by name, the Gunners are now the top side in the running.
Several reports emerged on Thursday that the Argentina international had agreed personal terms in north London and a club record £22m would be paid to Madrid for his services.
All signs are now pointing towards the deal going through and it would be a big boost for the Gunners as they prepare to strengthen their squad following eight consecutive seasons without winning a trophy.
