Clint Dempsey returns to his native Texas.
Houston Dynamo will be looking to spoil what will likely be Clint Dempsey’s first start for the Sounders, but admit they would have liked to have the ex-Tottenham working back in his native Texas. Dynamo captain Brad Davis, speaking ahead of Saturdays clash at the BBVA Compass Stadium, had high praise for Dempsey. “He’s played at a high level for a long time and is arguably the best player to come out of the US,” he said. “I would’ve loved to have him on our team, but even if he’s not I think it’s a fantastic move for the league.”
Houston sit fifth in the Eastern Conference, just inside the playoff places, and will face a tough test from the Sounders who are on a four match unbeaten run, the most recent success coming in a 2-1 win against Toronto. Houston, on the other hand, had an excellent run cut short in their last game against Real Salt Lake, losing 1-0.
With Seattle fans eager to see Dempsey take to the field, Saturday could present Houston fans with the chance to see their new signing Alexander López play, the Honduran playmaker having arrived on Thursday.
