With the Premier League season now just days away from kicking off, managers of the 20 clubs will be putting the final touches on their prospective sides for the opening fixtures.
Arsenal face a tough test against Tony Pulis’ Crystal Palace, with Arsene Wenger having been given plenty to think about by his team’s fine performance in the Community Shield victory over Manchester City and also the Emirates Cup matches against Benfica and AS Monaco.
All things considered, this is the team we expect Wenger to put out to face the Eagles:
Goalkeeper and Defence
GK) Wojciech Szczesny – The Polish number one is also likely to remain as first choice at the Emirates Stadium this season, despite the challenge of David Ospina.
RB) Mathieu Debuchy – Has been signed from Newcastle United as the replacement for Bacary Sagna – looked excellent at Wembley.
CB) Laurent Koscielny – Was one of Arsenal’s key players last season, having formed a fine partnership with Per Mertesacker – will have to be at his best here, however, with the big German set to miss out.
CB) Calum Chambers – Teenager Calum Chambers impressed enough in both the Emirates Cup and Community Shield to suggest that he can deputise for Mertesacker in the centre.
LB) Kieran Gibbs – Put in a fine performance against City in the Community Shield and is looking like the long term incumbent of the left back position at the Emirates Stadium.
