GK – Joe Hart
The Manchester City No.1 is still the established first choice for the Three Lions, although if he continues to lose his place in the Citizens XI then Southampton’s Fraser Forster is close on his tail.
RB – Nathaniel Clyne
Many thought this Saints full-back should have been included in Hodgson’s last squad, with doubts over the capabilities of Glen Johson and Kyle Walker and John Stones looking uncomfortable at right-back.
CB – Gary Cahill
The only centre-back available who is in good form and can be continually relied upon, although the likes of Stones and Calum Chambers are developing extremely promisingly.
CB – Phil Jagielka
There are doubts over whether the Everton captain is good enough for the international stage anymore, although Jagielka is still probably the best option available.
LB – Leighton Baines
The form of this left-back has dropped significantly when compared to recent years, but Baines is still a slightly better proposition than Kieran Gibbs currently – how long that will stay the case is a different matter however.
