Tottenham have made Chelsea owned striker Romelu Lukaku their no.1 summer transfer target, reports the Telegraph.
The 20-year-old forward is prodigiously talented, but has been shipped out on loan by the Blues for the past two seasons. Last term, he notched 17 league goals for West Brom, while this time round, he’s scored 11 so for Everton.
As a result of the ability he’s displayed at Premier League level, Spurs are prepared to match his £25m asking price, and would easily be able to increase his current £40k-per-week wages.
Tottenham signed Roberto Soldado for £26m last summer, but the Spaniard has badly failed to live up to his transfer fee, while Emmanuel Adebayor is in his thirties, and Jermaine Defoe left in January.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to bring in a proven, world-class forward, and hinted that Lukaku will be leaving in the summer, because of the poor attitude he showed last summer in demanding a loan move.
“One to leave, two to leave because they want to play more because one of the kids feels it’s better to go and play on loan somewhere,” he said.
Whether Chelsea will be prepared to sell to a Premier League rival is another matter of course.
