According to reports in the Daily Mirror today, Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer kitty could be swelled as Hull City boss is looking to capture defender Michael Dawson in a £4 million raid on White Hart Lane.
Former Nottingham Forest and England defender Dawson has become less and less vital at Tottenham over the years and is unlikely to fit into the system of new manager Mauricio Pochettino, who likes his defenders to have pace to fit into his high pressing game.
Whilst pace is one attribute that Dawson has never been blessed with, he undoubtedly remains a capable Premier League centre half who would be an impressive capture for Hull City, reminiscent of their January swoops for striking duo Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic.
Selling Dawson would also allow Pochettino to raise much needed funds, with Spurs not believe to have the same amount of cash to splash in the transfer window as they did last summer after the departure of Gareth Bale for a world record fee.
Many of the signings that arrived after the Bale deal, such as Etienne Capoue, Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado, flopped in their first season at White Hart Lane, something that makes Pochettino’s job in the transfer market even more tricky this summer.
