Bruce’s Boys are the ‘Special One’s’ first opponents back as the new Blues boss.
Steve Bruce’s newly promoted Hull City could not have been handed a harder start to life back in the Premier League as the Tigers travel to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bride in the opening fixture of the 2013-14 season.
That contest will also represent the second homecoming of Blues head coach Jose Mourinho in west London, which makes the match-up an even more hard assignment for Hull.
However, Bruce and Co will just be happy to be back in the Premier League, three years after they last appeared in the top flight under previous manager Phil Brown.
On that occasion, Brown somehow managed to keep the minnows in the Premier League in their debut campaign in the top flight, against all the odds, with the Tigers even topping the standings in the autumn of 2008.
But ultimately Hull did end up being relegated back to the Championship at the conclusion to the 2009-10 campaign, although they will be hoping for a better ending to proceedings next time around.
