The FA Cup semi-finals are upon us and the winner of Hull City v Sheffield United will go onto face Arsenal in the final on Saturday 17 May.
For these two sides that would be the biggest game for many years, as Hull have only ever got to this stage of the competition once – way back in 1930 – and have never gotten to the final.
The Blades have won the tournament on four occasions, although the last of those was in 1925 and the last time they reached the final was in 1936.
They have also lost on their last four trips to the semis, the most recent of which was a controversial defeat to Arsenal in 2003.
Much has changed since then though and United are now a League One side, making Hull the clear favourites despite their lack of precedent at this stage of the cup.
The Tigers have overcome the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion, Middlesbrough and Sunderland to get to this stage, although will be without cup-tied strike duo Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic.
However, manager Steve Bruce – who won the FA Cup three times as a player with Manchester United – will see this as the perfect opportunity to win the club’s first major trophy.
For the Blades the new Wembley Stadium hasn’t been kind to them, with defeats in their only two visits here, but they should be buoyed by the fact they have already eliminated Premier League opposition in this run in the shape of Aston Villa and Fulham.
Their boss Nigel Clough has turned their form around since succeeding David Weir and has a fully fit squad to choose from as he tries to win the only trophy that eluded his late, great father Brian.
