Sunderland need to put the disappointment of losing the League Cup final last weekend behind them as they face another cup clash with Hull City.
It’s the quarter-final of the FA Cup and the Black Cats could continue their great cup run under manager Gus Poyet at the KC Stadium.
The away side have not won a trophy since 1973 and will not get a much better chance to end that drought than this season, although Hull also have the prospect of reaching Wembley for only the second time in their 110-year history.
They last got to the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 1930 and Steve Bruce would also like to get another one over on his former employers in this clash.
Both teams have had mixed campaigns in the Premier League and survival still remains the No.1 priority for 2013/14, but a good cup run would certainly please either set of fans.
Bruce will be without in-form striking duo Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic as they are both cup-tied, whilst Robbie Brady, Paul McShane and Joe Dudgeon are all out through injury.
For the visitors Keiren Westwood is the only fitness concern, although Vito Mannone has been preferred in goal recently in any case.
Liam Bridcutt should return to the starting XI after being cup-tied for the League Cup final, whilst the scorer from that game – Fabio Borini – should retain his place upfront.
