The England international’s current deal with the Blues only runs until the end of June and with the two parties having so far been unable to come to any sort of agreement over a new contract, Lampard may have now played his final game for the club.
Lampard, 35, who is currently with the Three Lions squad preparing for next month’s Fifa World Cup finals in Brazil and has been at Stamford Bridge for the past 13 years now, has been seeking a new two-year deal, while his employers have only been willing to offer the player a 12-month extension.
“I don’t know if I’ll be at Chelsea next season,” said Lampard.
“I’d like to carry on for two or three more years but it would be good to end on a high. So, if that means it all ends tomorrow, I wouldn’t have any regrets.
“You know your shelf-life, so I started to mentally prepare when I hit 30. I’ve been doing this for a long time, so there’s a part of me that’s looking forward to the future.”
Lampard managed to register seven goals and six assists in his 40 appearances in all competitions for the west Londoners last time out.
