Real Madrid forked out an unprecedented sum to sign the winger from Tottenham.
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell insists the Catalan club would never have paid a world record fee to sign Gareth Bale.
Real Madrid handed Tottenham an £86 million (€100m) bounty to sign Bale last week after a summer-long saga, that saw Manchester United register a late interest in signing the 24-year-old before he sealed a dream move to the Bernabeu.
And Rosell admits Barca would never have gone to the same financial lengths as their La Liga rivals did to obtain the Welshman’s signature.
“I wouldn’t have paid €100million for Bale, but if they did, it’s because the members allow it, there’s nothing more to say,” talkSPORT report him as telling Spanish TV.
Barcelona have been modest spenders in the transfer window, spending £48.6m to sign Brazilian ace Neymar from Santos with Rosell playing a key role in bringing the 21-year-old superstar to the Nou Camp.
Bale, meanwhile, was an unused substitute for Wales in their World Cup qualifying defeat to Macedonia on Friday night, and is expected to make his Madrid away at Villarreal on September 14. His first match at the Bernabeu will come eight days later when his new side host Getafe.
