The Spaniard managed only one goal during the whole of his Anfield career after his £7.6m arrival from Celta Vigo in 2013 [fee reported by The Guardian] – against Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup third round.
Now back at Celta – Liverpool fans may be wondering how he found it within himself to bag twice against the European champions in a shock 4-1 victory for Eduardo Berizzo’s side in La Liga.
Aspas made 15 appearances under Brendan Rodgers in the 2013-14 campaign and was then loaned to Sevilla last season, where he scored 13 goals in 25 outings to help them to Europa League glory.
He returned to Celta this summer as part of Liverpool’s exodus of 14 first-team players. Judging by the way that they have started this season, as many could be offloaded at the end of this term.
