The 31-year-old departs the Hindmarsh Stadium just one season after returning
Iain Fyfe has left Adelaide United for the second time in his career to join Iran Pro League side Mes Kerman, Goal Australia report.
The 31-year-old has swapped southern Australia for the Persian Gulf and is expected to pick up an annual salary of $US260,000 at the Shahid Bahonar Stadium, with the move coming just a week after the Reds confirmed they had allowed him to travel to Iran for talks.
Fyfe was a regular at the Hindmarsh Stadium last season, making 23 appearances, but has become a casualty of new manager Josep Gombau’s desire to purge his squad of center backs for the new A-League campaign and made no attempts to prevent the defender from leaving.
“We have five central defenders but only one left back,” Gombau was quoted as saying earlier this week.”The problem isn’t that the five central defenders cannot learn the style, they can learn it with work.
“The problem is that the team at the moment is not balanced like what we need.”
The former Australia under-23 international previously represented Adelaide between 2009 and 2011 only to return in 2012 after failing to make an impression during a year-long stint at South Korean club Busan I’Park.
