Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is closing in on a move to Juventus, according to reports in the Italian media.
The 36-year-old, who scored 100 Premier League goals in 226 appearances for the Blues between 2004 and 2012, is a free agent after leaving Turkish side Galatasaray.
Drogba believes he is still more than capable of playing at the top level of European football, and is desperate to be a part of the Champions League next season.
Ivory Coast’s all-time leading goalscorer had been linked with an emotional return to Chelsea, but Juventus have now emerged as the favourites to sign the Golden Foot winner.
He scored 14 goals last season, including two in Galatasaray’s Champions League run which saw them progress from a group that also contained Juventus. The Turkish side eventually exited the competition to Chelsea in the first knockout round, allowing Drogba one more game at Stamford Bridge.
If he completes his proposed move to Turin, he will joined a packed Juventus strike-force that already contains Carlos Tevez, Sebastian Giovinco, Fernando Llorente and Fabio Quagliarella.
Real Madrid’s young forward Alvaro Morata has also been heavily linked with a move to the club, with Juve’ expected to beat off competition from Arsenal and Tottenham to sign the 21-year-old in the coming days.
