New Brisbane Broncos recruit Ben Barba says he is hell-bent on making the move north a winner as he preapres for off-season training.
Barba signed with the Broncos after family issues meant he could not see out the full length of his deal with the Canterbury Bulldogs.
The former Dally M Medal winner said he cannot tahnk the Bulldogs enough for letting him go so he could be closer to his family.
“Hopefully wearing the Broncos jersey, I can start to earn the fans’ faith and support,” Barba said, who will officially begin training with his new club on Wednesday.
“You know, I will probably never be a Darren Lockyer – he was world-class- but it does get to me sometimes when I hear that I’ve only had one good season.
“I am focused and keen to prove my critics wrong that I’m not a one-hit wonder.
“The first time I put a Broncos polo on, I’ll admit it felt a bit weird. I walked past the mirror, saw myself in maroon, and did a double take.
“I still can’t believe I am here but I’m grateful to the Bulldogs for allowing me to follow my family to Brisbane. I owe it to the Broncos for allowing me to come into their culture, especially with my brother (Marmin) here, and hopefully I can make the fans happy.
“I’m not saying I will make the Broncos win every game. But if I can help them to success everyone’s dream is a premiership … I will do my best to repay the Broncos’ faith in me.”
