The 26-year-old was taken to hospital after engaging in a war with Guerrero over 12 rounds in the main event of the first ‘Premier Boxing Champions’ card on NBC.
Thurman dominated the bout but was tested by his opponent, and a nasty clash of heads in the third round left him with a visible and severe bump on his forehead while his corner were worried that he had also suffered a fracture near his left eye.
However, his trainer, Dan Birmingham, revealed that no fracture was found after further tests and that Thurman was given the all clear from the hospital.
‘One Time’ will now hope to build on the momentum of Saturday night and secure big fights in 2015, and although he isn’t expected to walk straight into a title fight in his next bout, he is certainly knocking on the door of world titles in the near future.
While Guerrero put up a brave effort and climbed up off the canvas in the 9th round, Thurman received high praise for his powerful and disciplined display as he showed he can be the classier fighter when required but dig in and exchange when it calls for it.
PBC will debut on Spike TV this Friday, and Thurman will likely have a close eye on proceedings as he may well face the winner of Andre Berto vs Josesito Lopez or Shawn Porter’s clash with Roberto Garcia.
