It’s not often that Gareth Bale gets spurned by fans. But to be spurned by fans in favor of a player from Borussia Dortmund? That must sting.

Despite being one of the best players on Real Madrid, winger Gareth Bale doesn’t appear to be catching on with the fans of one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
According to The Independent, a recent poll on 90min.com revealed that Manchester United fans would rather have the club sign Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels over Bale. Hummels won the poll with a whopping 54% of the over 24,000 votes cast – Bale was a distant second with 24%.
Bale got his professional start with Southampton, recording 5 goals in 40 appearances from 2005 to 2007 before signing with Tottenham Hotspur and becoming one of the fastest rising stars in the League. Bale emerged as a dependable star in 2009, recording a total of 19 goals over a three-season span – but he exploded onto the scene during the 2012-13 season when he recorded 21 goals in 33 Premier League appearances and 26 total goals in 44 appearances in total.
Real Madrid would pay nearly €100 million in order to get him to sign with the club and the results in the first two seasons have been phenomenal, with 28 goals over the course of 57 games.
But Hummels is no slouch either. The German national recorded two goals for the club during their 2014 FIFA World Cup Championship run, including the team’s lone goal in their July 4th win over France. The 26-year-old defender has been with Borussia Dortmund since 2009 and has made nearly 200 appearances and 17 goals in that span.
