Brazilian child has heartwarming message for curly-haired ‘defender’.
Brazil defender David Luiz burst into tears as he gave a pitchside interview following Tuesday night’s 7-1 loss to Germany in the semi-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
It was clearly the low point of the former Chelsea and Benfica star’s career.
Luiz, who recently joined Paris Saint-Germain for a fee in the region of £50m, captained Brazil in the absence of regular skipper Thiago Silva, who was suspended.
The 27-year-old was heavily criticised for his cavalier and inept performance in the game.
However, he still has one fan, at least.
Nine-year-old Analuz sent Luiz a heartwarming letter, which the footballer shared on his Instagram page.
It was written in Portuguese, but translated to English it reads: “Hi David Luiz, my name is Analuz.
“I saw all of the Brazil games at the World Cup and I liked watching you play a lot.
“I don’t think you need to be sad because you played well and did the best you could. You were a great captain.
“Life is like this, sometimes people lose and sometimes people win, but people only need to be happy.
“David Luiz, you are my champion.”
