St Kilda veteran Leigh Montagna has been left embarrassed after mistaking a sandal for a snake on the weekend.

The 232-game midfielder thought he spotted a snake in the corner of his eye and went on to call on the help of a snake handler.
Montagna agreed to pay the callout fee of $180, but hilarity ensued when the man arrived.
“He’s gone over, he’s gone to flick it out and it’s a sandal,” Montagna is quoted as saying by Triple M.
“My wife comes over and says why didn’t you throw a rock at it? I said I’m not going to throw a rock at a snake!
“I got stitched up, 180 bucks for the snake handler on his Sunday to come over and pick a sandal out of my garden.”
In all fairness it Montagna, you can see why he may have thought it was indeed a snake:
