Jets star Josh Brillante crossed swords with Phoenix’s Manny Muscat.
Wellington Phoenix gave a major boost to their preparations for the new A-League season with a 1-0 victory against Newcastle Jets on Saturday.
The deciding goal was an early one as the Jets failed to pick up Ben Sigmund in the seventh, allowing the Phoenix defender to powerfully head in from a corner taken by off-season signing Carlos Hernandez.
Tempers threatened to flare later on at Rockwell Automation Park as bearded Newcastle anchor manJosh Brillante and Manny Muscat engaged in a small tiff off the ball, but the match ended without incident.
