SLAM Magazine have turned back the clock to use a famous 1996 cover photo featuring the 1996 NBA Draft class and given it a more updated look with the latest crop of starlets.
The expectations for this group are huge, with the likes of Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker and Joel Embiid all expected to have significant careers in the league, but ultimately, they will all be hoping to have an immediate impact this season.
While Parker has been labelled ‘NBA ready’, all three have the ability, talent and characteristics to go on and become household names, but it remains to be seen whether or not they deliver.
Question marks will particularly hang over Wiggins after his tumultuous summer since entering the NBA, as he completed a trade move to the Minnesota Timberwolves after originally being drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
That move saw Kevin Love move in the opposite direction, but the Timberwolves now have a group of young and highly talented players on their roster, and Wiggins will hope to emerge as their star.
The ’96 class features three former MVPs in Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and Allen Iverson, as well as arguably the game’s greatest shooter in Ray Allen.
Although they have some big footsteps to follow in, it hasn’t stopped experts, the media and fans from getting excited about what this crop of rookies can achieve…
