South Sydney grand final hero Sam Burgess is undergoing surgery this afternoon to repair fractures to his cheekbone and eye socket.
Burgess suffered the injury in the first tackle of the Rabbitohs’ historic win, and played the entire game with the injury.
The 25-year-old is reportedly having a metal plate inserted into his face to repair the fractures.
“Just laying in hospital waiting for surgery,” Burgess tweeted.
“I look similar to a hamster at the moment. I wouldn’t change anything for the world though.”
