The NFL Draft is this Thursday and always the QBs will be under the most scrutiny. Last year’s QB class had its ups and downs (the ups being Derek Carr, Zach Mettenberger and Teddy Bridgewater with the downs being Johnny Manziel and Blake Bortles) and this years class has many of the same kinds of QBs.
Super productive products of championship systems, run-first QBs with better legs than arms, Heisman winners with character concerns – all of them hear their names called as NFL teams risk their very futures on players that must play the critical position.
Here is a look at the top 5 QB prospects heading into the 2015 NFL Draft:
5. Garrett Grayson, Colorado State
A relatively unknown prospect as a result of having played in the FCS as opposed to the FBS for his college career, Grayson actually has the prototypical size and arm strength of an NFL QB. Grayson has one of the strongest throwing arms out of all of the QBs available this year and has played under center much more than the majority of the QBs ranked ahead of him.
Grayson’s fall in the draft to the middle rounds will be a result of his poor decision-making and tendency to stare-down receivers – a major no-no in the NFL that almost always results in turnovers. In most other years Grayson would likely be relegated to the final three rounds as a fringe prospect, but the relatively slim pickings behind him have boosted his stock independent of his own shortcomings.
Projection: 4th round
