Gunners planning statue of Dutch forward.
It would not be unreasonable to argue that Arsenal really don’t need another statue at present…
After all, in recent months, we’ve seen Herbert Chapman, Thierry Henry, Tony Adams (all outside the Emirates Stadium) and Per Mertesacker (inside the Emirates Stadium, in the heart of defence) set in stone, but the North London outfit are planning to immortalise another hero from a more successful era – Dennis Bergkamp.
The Dutch master made over 300 appearances for Arsenal between 1995 and 2006 and was part of the ‘Invincibles’ team that went the entire 2003/04 season unbeaten.
Bergkamp is currently assistant manager at Ajax but has been tipped for a return to North London as Liam Brady’s replacement as head of youth development in the future.
Dare we suggest that the release of these pictures is a decent distraction from worrying on-pitch matters, ahead of Sunday’s crunch North London derby at White Hart Lane, or is that too cynical?
