India captain MS Dhoni has tweeted his appreciation after watching Rohit Sharma record the highest individual score in one-day international history.
Sharma smashed his way to an incredible 264 from 173 deliveries as India reached 404-5 – their fourth highest one-day total ever – to take control of the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka.
Having opened the batting alongside Ajinkya Rahane, Sharma remained at the crease for the whole innings, hitting 33 fours and nine sixes, before being caught by Mahela Jayawardene off the final ball of the 50th over.
As well as taking the record for highest individual knock, Sharma becomes the only man to score two double hundreds in ODI cricket.
India are being captained by Virat Kholi today, because regular skipper Dhoni has a broken thumb.
Dhoni was a keen spectator in Kolkata though. Check out his tweet below.
Sharma was just five runs short of breaking the record for highest individual knock in a first-class one-day game.
That record still belongs to Ali Brown, who scored 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan in 2002.
Very well batted Rohit.thats Rohit for everyone, sheer talent.Enjoy and Witness the class in action.
