Koeverman’s men sneak though to semi-finals
The holders have qualified for the South Asian Football Federation Championship semi-finals despite a 2-1 defeat to Nepal.
Due to their win against Pakistan in the opening game ( through an own goal), the Men in Blue have inched past the group stages.
Anul Garung scored Nepal’s first goal against India in seven years 70 minutes in, Jumanu Rai added a second ten minutes later as India looked on.
27-year-old utility man Syeb Rahim Nabi pulled one back for India but it was too little to late for Wim Koeverman’s side as they crashed to their first defeat of the Championship.
With hindsight, after three below bar performances India will feel very lucky to have reached the semi-final stage of the competition.
